In celebration of this restaurant, Chick-fil-A will donate $US25,000 to Second Harvest to support local hunger relief, and will bring approximately 90-95 full- and part-time jobs to the area

TORONTO, ON (AUGUST 2, 2023) – A new Chick-fil-A® restaurant will begin serving the Mississauga community on Thursday, August 10. Chick-fil-A has selected local resident Mufuti Sanusi as the independent franchised Owner/Operator of Chick-fil-A Square One Shopping Centre.

Located in the Square One Shopping Centre property’s Food Central food court on Level 1 at 100 City Centre Drive, Mississauga, Chick-fil-A Square One Shopping Centre will be open for dine-in and pick-up from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Locally owned and operated

As full-time, hands-on leaders in their restaurants and communities, Chick-fil-A Owner/Operators proudly reside in the areas in which they serve.

In Mississauga, Sanusi will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 90-95 full- and part-time Team Members, serving guests and cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses.

Sanusi was born in Lagos, Nigeria, where she developed a passion for business and a strong work ethic through her mother and grandmother who led a family business. She came to Canada in 2008, earning a bachelor's degree in commerce from York University and an MBA from Loughborough University in the UK, where she honed the skills and education needed to lead a successful business. Settling in Mississauga, she held finance and accounting roles for more than four years.

Sanusi’s Chick-fil-A journey began when she was accepted into the Chick-fil-A Leadership Development Program, where she experienced personal and professional growth through impactful leadership and on-the-job training. For the past two years, she supported six new restaurant openings in the U.S. and Canada, where she learned valuable skills needed to operate a successful restaurant, nurture Team Members’ growth and deliver exceptional experiences for guests.

“My vision for Chick-fil-A Square One Shopping Centre is to serve the people of Mississauga with great food and impeccable service by being hospitable and showing care,” said Sanusi. “I am passionate about leading with integrity, building trust and giving back to our community by establishing strong relationships inside and outside my restaurant. I am also looking forward to helping my team succeed and reach their goals through competitive wages, benefits and mentoring opportunities.”

Impacting the community

Since 2020, Chick-fil-A has donated more than US$1.125 million to Second Harvest to support local hunger-relief organizations. Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and reduces the environmental impact of food waste by redistributing surplus edible food from across the supply chain to non-profits throughout the country. In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A will donate US$25,000 to Second Harvest to support local non-profit organizations in the community in the fight against hunger.

Sanusi’s restaurant will also be participating in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table™ Program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and non-profits in need. Chick-fil-A Square One Shopping Centre will do its part to reduce food waste in its kitchen with a “cook less, more often” approach, reducing the amount of food that goes unserved. When there is surplus food, Chick-fil-A Square One Shopping Centre will donate it to a local non-profit organization. To date, more than 20 million meals have been served from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations.

“There is a growing need to help fight hunger in Mississauga,” said Sanusi. “I’m passionate about caring for our community, and participating in Chick-fil-A Shared Table is a way for me to give back locally and make a meaningful impact by providing meals to those who need them most.”
