Chick-fil-A Donates US$25,000 to Nonprofit Organization to Celebrate Devonshire Opening

UHC – Hub of Opportunities, formerly known as the Unemployed Help Centre of Windsor, has been dedicated to meeting the needs of vulnerable people living in Windsor-Essex County since 1977. "Our priority is for individuals to come here and feel like they are in a welcome and open environment," said June Muir, Chief Executive Officer of the nonprofit organization. "We provide Individuals with services that will help move them to independence and allow them to achieve their desired outcomes."

The organization offers 26 programs and services that aim to focus on four pillars of support and guidance - basic human needs such as food assistance programs, employment services, training, and education.

When Jordan Schmidt, independent franchised Owner/Operator of the Chick-fil-A® Devonshire met Muir and learned about the work her nonprofit was doing in the local community, he was encouraged by her shared passion for creating professional development opportunities.

“June shared how the organization wants to ‘go beyond the table,’ where in addition to providing nutritious meals from its Food Bank to those in need, she hopes to create new opportunities and a sense of belonging through additional programs and services,” said Schmidt. "I was incredibly encouraged by June's heart and passion for the community of Windsor-Essex, for in the same way, it's my hope for our restaurant to serve as a place where team members can grow as leaders, and where guests can gather to enjoy a meal and build community.”

As part of Chick-fil-A, Inc.'s commitment to donate US$25,000 to a local community partner for every new restaurant opening in Canada, UHC – Hub of Opportunities will receive the donation to support their programming for newcomers and youth.

“Put simply, we want our clients to know, ‘when you need us, we’re here,’” said Muir. “It’s through our community partners that we can provide that level of support for our clients, and we are so appreciative of this donation from Chick-fil-A, as well as future efforts, where together, we can help find meaningful employment opportunities for our community.”
